History

An aspiring devotee of HANUMANJI, Dr. Balliram Chadee has embarked on a journey to establish the First Indo Caribbean Cultural Center and Heritage House in Canada, to be located in Ajax, Ontario. In order to realize his dream and vision, to serve members of the community effectively, sincerely and purely through Humanitarian efforts, The Hanuman Mission was established in 2002; as a Service Oriented Organization in Canada to help all Canadians as needed and required.

The Hanuman Mission fosters a "three fold" dimension which reflects Culture (Humanism), Service (Humanitarianism) and Religion (Hanumanism). "AJAX SOUTH ASIAN CULTURAL CENTER" addresses the needs and requirements of our rich Heritage, Culture and Traditions as "Indo Caribbean" South Asians here in Canada. The "INDO CARIBBEAN FAMILY SUPPORT SERVICES" which is the first ever Registered Social Support Services Organization in Canada for Indo Caribbean Immigrants, would address the Social Needs and Support Services requirements of our community. Finally "THE HANUMAN TEMPLE", the ONLY REGISTERED CHARITY with the name "Hanuman Temple" was designed to satisfy the underserviced needs of the Hindu Community and the Devotees of the Lord, Master and Patron Saint of Strength, Knowledge and Virtue; Bajrang Bali, Mahaveer Swami, Pawan Putra Hanumanji.

Dr. Balliram Chadee after 6 years of his Divine Intervention, finally answered the Divine Call from Hanumanji in April 2002 as a personal gift to himself for his 40th birthday and accepted the blessings to allow himself to be used as a servant by Hanumanji for his mission in this part of the world. The desire to understand that absolute power, unlimited strength, limitless virtues and unimaginable healing capabilities of Hanumanji, led Bally to establish “The Hanuman Mission”. He believed this was a personal mission; with an individual intervention from Hanumanji himself and to answer this divine call, endeavored to legally established the entire mission with his own two hands through the blessings of Hanumanji, conforming with the strict objectives and mandates of the charitable organization, as stipulated by laws.

As such all the legal work, logistical hurdles, administrative process and requirements for the Incorporation of this Charity, as well as to obtain the Registered Charitable Designation Status in Canada; were all done personally by him with NO Legal Support, Lawyers, Consultants, Assistance or Services from anyone paid in the charity business. He single handedly undertook all requirements and succeeded at every one of them for this Mission, ensuring perfection and success for his Patron Saint; Hanumanji.

This Vision became a reality & then materialized from Hanumanji to become known as:
“The Hanuman Temple and Center For Religious & Cultural Research”. The names of “The Hanuman Mission”, "Ajax South Asian Cultural Center" and "Indo Caribbean Family Support services" are all Legally Registered Entities in Ontario and were all created with the blessings of Hanumanji. A Unique Logo depicting the symbolism and mandate of The Hanuman Mission, as seen on this website, was then launched in February 2005.
Dr. Balliram Chadee who refused to be considered or called a Pundit, then took the title of "The Sadhu from Ajax" and pledged to serve The Hanuman Mission.

The Objective and Goal of the Founder & President has always been to obtain the appropriate and relevant information to understand Hanumanji satisfactorily (if possible), which he has not been able to achieved or understand, even until today. He believes that Hanumanji is the guiding light of this Kali age in which we live, the symbol of strength and energy and the pillar of success. He has undertaken over ten years of research efforts so far to study the full requirements of proper and effective Hanumanji worship, documenting the steps required and needed for conducting Pujas, Rites, and Rituals. To achieve this goal (academic and spiritual), Dr. Chadee undertook and successfully achieved a Masters Degree in Hinduism and Hindu Studies. He has also studied and continues to study Astrology to help appreciate the cosmic nature and effects of our planetary system and the impact it presents on the lives of Hindus in today's world. He further achieved a Doctoral Degree (PhD) in Human and Social Services, researching and documenting his efforts in a Thesis entitled: The Migration of Caribbean Hinduism to North America: The Evolution of a Social Services Framework in The Hanuman Mission of Canada.

Since Hanumanji has always been a "Service Oriented Role Model" to the entire world, unmatchable even till today, The Hanuman Mission has embarked on various support initiatives to assist the community it was designed to serve. Dr.Balliram Chadee is a Minister of Religion and Registered Hindu Marriage Officer. He has been awarded the Certificate of Multifaith Competency by Ontario Multifaith Council on Spiritual and Religious Care. He completed the Interfaith Visitation Training Level 1 for Hospitals with Centenary and Ajax/Pickering Hospitals in 2003. He completed the Level 2 and Level 3 Training for Hospital Visitation at Oshawa General Hospital, where he also took training in Grief Counseling and Spiritual Counseling as well as visitation for patients with unique conditions. He is registered as The Designated Hindu Visitor with Toronto General, Princess Margaret and Western Hospitals, a Hindu Visitor with Scarborough General, Ajax/Pickering, Oshawa and Bowmanville General Hospitals and a Hindu Pastoral Visitor with SunnyBrook Hospital. He served as the VICE-CHAIR of The SPIRITUAL AND RELIGIOUS CARE COMMITTEE at Ajax/Pickering Hospital.

In 2004, he was appointed to the Cultural Arts Advisory Committee for the Town of Ajax. He was appointed to the Community Liaison Committee of Durham Regional Police Services. He was appointed a Commissioner of Oaths and Affidavits for The Hanuman Mission in 2004. He obtained Certification as a Certified Teacher for Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) in Ontario and Canada. In 2005 he was appointed to the Board of Trustees of United Way of Ajax\Pickering\Auxbridge. In 2006, he was appointed to the Board of Directors of Community Development Council Durham (CDCD) . In 2006, he was Certified as an Accredited Workplace and Family Mediator (EAP Acc.Med). In 2007 he was Accredited as a Certified Conflict Auditor (ACA). Under these heavy commitments, he continues his Spiritual, Social and Community Service work to The Hanuman Mission, the Hindu Community, Hospital Chaplaincy, Town of Ajax and all others in need, irregardless of their Faith, Beliefs, Heritage or Religion. He wrote bi-weekly articles on "Perspectives of Hinduism", for the Hotshots Newspaper here in Toronto since its inception until summer 2008, when the paper seized existence. The objective was to bring social and spiritual views of Canadian Hindu perspectives, but driven by Caribbean Hinduism. He has also been providing Consultations, Presentations, Seminars and Workshops to various Hospitals and organizations on matters of Hinduism, Culture, Heritage and Cultural Diversity.

Dr. Balliram Chadee is involved with many organizations providing Social, Community, Spiritual and Religious Services. He introduced and developed various Fund Raising, Public Relations, Recognition Programs and Networking initiatives over the past seven years while involved with various organizations serving community, man and god. Professionally, he has a career in Quality Assurance Management, Risk Management and Process Development and worked as a Consultant, Sr. Manager and Director for many world class companies in Trinidad, USA and Canada over the past 26 years. He provides Religious and Spiritual Services including Solemnization of Marriages, Family Counseling, Family Mediation, Spirituality, Conflict Resolution, Social Support Services Assistance, Blessing of Houses, Vehicles, "Jharay" services and Cultural Diversity Consultations. He was part of the Multifaith Services as the only Hindu Leader for the Tsunami Disaster which took place at Deer Creek Convention Facility organized by Durham Region in 2005. He was also the first to put a round table together with Durham Regional Police, the Tamil Community and The Hanuman Mission to bring the plight of that disaster on the very first Saturday morning on Masala TV after the Hanuman Chaleesa.

Dr. Chadee was the First Hindu ever to stand in the Council Chambers of the Town of Ajax and address the Inauguration Ceremony of elected officials with greetings from the Hindu Community after 51 years as a Town, as part of a Multifaith Service. He is the first Hindu Clergy and Leader to be Registered as a Hindu Chaplaincy provider; with all the Training, Academics and Credentials required for over 12 Hospitals in GTA and Durham Region.

He single handedly created PROJECT 2009, an initiative and mandate which would ensure that a RAMAYAN or Hindu Sacred Text is placed in the Chapel Facility of every single Hospital in the Province of Ontario by the end of Year 2009. After singelhandedly designing and introducing the "Buy A Brick" program for another Charity, in 2007 he then went ahead and created another project called "A HAND FOR HANUMAN", a fundraising Initiative which would allow a Contributor to make a ONE TIME Donation of $500 Cdn to help The Hanuman Mission purchase a property to build the FIRST Hanuman Temple here in Canada. He created and donated to Dr. Roberta Public School, the "Chadee Inspiration Award" given to one motivated student annually. He created and donated in 2006, the "Marilyn Sinclair Education Award", named in Honor of a Past Principal of Dr. Roberta Bondar Public School for her service and education to all. He also created the First Joint Volunteer Recognition Award Initiative between The Hanuman Mission and Durham Regional Police Services with Rod Piukalla' Past Deputy Chief of Police. He created the First Live Tribute to Hanuman Food Drive, which donated over 1800 lbs and 25 boxes of food items to the Salvation Army and Food Banks in Ajax, Whitby and Oshawa areas.

On his 45th Birthday in 2007, a book he co-authored with 9 other professionals entitled "East West Traditions - An Ethical Perspective" on Hinduism and Comparative Religion, published in Bangalore, India was released in Ajax, Canada.
Dr. Chadee received many awards as listed below from all three levels of government in Canada and is the ONLY CANADIAN EVER, PAST or PRESENT as a single individual who has such a list of awards for Selfless Community and Volunteer Service to Canada

Founder/President’s Commitment: "The Hanuman Mission was established for and is guided by the Principles of Hanumanji, to serve him and the millions on that PRINCIPLE ONLY! It is intended to help the millions who continue to seek his grace and blessings, achieve it, in an Institution of Learning, Spirituality, Support and Healing. This mission will NOT WAIVER from this objective and NO COMPROMISE will be made by this organization, to change or alter its dedication and intentions from serving Hanumanji Fully, Sincerely and Purely. We will use the knowledge we obtain from this MISSION to fulfill the quest for happiness, contentment, spirituality and self gratification for the millions who aspire to be blessed by Hanumanji, get nearer to realizing that aspiration. The Hanuman Mission will remain a Legacy and Institution of PURE DEVOTION and SINCERE SERVICE to ALL MANKIND. It will remain a place "FREE of POLITICS" operated on HONESTY, SINCEERITY AND ETHICS and would be SUSTAINED ENTIRELY to serve the OBJECTIVES for which it was blessed to be established and approved in this wonderful country of Canada.
